SQL Server 2008

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

You may already be aware that SQL Server 2008 currently used to host Scuba/CentreStage databases will no longer be supported by Microsoft after 09/07/2019. Please see for more information.

Delta will, for a period of time, continue to provide support for its applications utilising SQL Server 2008 however we recommend migrating to a current version for improved security and performance.

Server migrations sit outside of the usual services provided by Delta and as such are usually carried out by your own IT support. Delta can conduct server migrations however this is a chargeable service with quotes available upon request.

As a brief overview, you may wish to review the following considerations and suggested actions with your IT support and management team in order to make an informed decision as to how you wish to proceed:

  • Audit current configuration:
    o Operating Systems (OS)
    o Shares/permissions
    o Database access – SQL/Windows authentication group
  • Consider Scuba services (where applicable):
    o Closedown service
    o Import to Scuba5
    o InterCentreLinkService
    o ScubaExtDataSyncService
Services can be located in windows\system32 or Syswow64 depending on the server OS
  • Consider web services (where applicable):
o ScubaConnect.php within the WSDL folder holds the connection details
o ScubaRemoteWebCamera routines for terminal server installation
  • Consider Sentinel:
o Fixed IP settings for door controllers and PC(s) running Sentinel. Windows Firewall needs port 9100 opened

Suggested action plan:
1. Make a copy of the Live database (and potentially central folders) on the new server
2. Configure your existing Scuba clients with an additional ‘location’ connecting to the new database / folders (remembering to change the location name!)
3. Test and then set the clients back to the Live system
4. On the day of migration, reconfigure all clients to the new location
5. Back up the live database and then take off line
6. Restore the database on the new server (Central Folders may need to be moved again if they have changed in the interim period)
7. Allow end users access to the system
8. Remove old locations from client machines

To summarise, there are two options available:

  • Continue with SQL Server 2008 (not recommended)
  • Migrate to a current version (recommended)

ISO 27001 Certification

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

As part of our continued commitment to providing a quality product and excellent service, we are extremely proud to announce that we are now ISO 27001 certified by BSI.

ISO 27001 is an internationally recognised Information Security Management standard.  BSI has assessed that Delta has stringent standards and processes in place to reduce risks and manage information security.

Our certification demonstrates that Delta, as an organisation, and Scuba and CentreStage, as solutions, follow international information security best practices.  In order to achieve certification we have undergone extensive and independent auditing by an accredited body, BSI.

Obtaining certification is only the first part of our journey.  We will continue with further ongoing internal and external auditing to maintain our certification beyond 2022 thus demonstrating our commitment to information security and a culture of continuous improvement.

“What does this actually mean to us as a customer?” we hear you ask.  The answer is simple – we strive to design, build and deploy the best software we can, for your business.  Policies and procedures are in place to protect your data and reduce risk as we take information security seriously.  You put your trust in us and we invest to maintain this relationship.

Congratulations to Heather and Neville for their hard work in achieving the standard as well as the rest of the team for their support!  As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

We Are Recruiting!

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Delta Computer Services is based in East Sussex and provides management information systems to leisure centres, theatres and visitor attractions throughout the UK with our first system being installed in 1985.

We pride ourselves in providing a functional, scalable and reliable software solution; listening to our customer’s requirements; meeting and enhancing their expectation levels of our software modules; and providing exceptional software support through regular consultation with our users as they are our advertising.

Delta is a family business operating as a partnership and we are now recruiting for two additional software Developers whose work ethic matches our own.

If you are sociable, innovative, creative, thorough, enthusiastic and a little bit mad then you are the piece of the jigsaw puzzle (that involves Customers, Sales, Customer Support and Developers all having a input in to the development of our software) we are looking for!

We are open minded to applicants that do not possess all of the desired skills outlined below but do have the underlying talent to achieve, develop and push the boundaries.

Job Role

Due to expansion, we are seeking two talented and experienced Web Developers who are looking for a challenge. We are not necessarily looking for someone who can cover both Front and Back end but some experience of the whole range of skills will be looked upon favourably.

Working with us, your responsibilities will include leading development on a range of projects across a number of platforms and technologies.  If you’re organised, motivated and not shy about sharing your opinion then this could be for you.

The role would be highly individualised and you will be responsible for designing, building and testing software before passing it to our Customer Support Team for rigorous testing before releasing to our clients.

Your main responsibility is for the production, modification and maintenance of both front and back end PHP applications. This involves working closely with the Product Manager, Dev Manager and Dev Team Lead to ensure the applications are built as specified.

You’ll also work closely with two Junior Developers and the Customer Support Team to test your code.  Your focus will be on being a team player and having the ability to work alone and think outside of the box.

  • Other features of the role include…
  • Helping to build functional requirements, technical design and implement application features
  • Field questions and solve problems for clients when first line support are unable to provide a fix
  • Participate in design and code reviews
  • Integration of user-facing elements developed by the Website Developer, with server side logic
  • Building reusable code and libraries for future use
  • Optimisation of the application / database for maximum speed and scalability
  • Implementation of efficient, secure and scalable software
  • Build and maintain functional apps for the business
  • Building and modification of API’s to enable system integration
  • Reporting on server load and other valuable statistics
  • Solve complex scalability, platform and integration problems
  • Be actively involved in company projects, to ensure the Development function is actively promoted

Essential Skills \ Requirements

You should have a wide breadth of development expertise and well versed in open source technologies, a solid understanding of web security as well as experience of several platforms, languages and environments.

An IT / Computing related degree incorporating knowledge of object-oriented programming would be ideal but not essential along with….

  • Strong knowledge of SQL databases, preferably MS-SQL
  • Experience of Responsive Web Application Development
  • Good knowledge of JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS3
  • Experience in PHP development
  • Ability to estimate accurately and work well to deadlines.
  • Produce application code that meets design specifications, follows internal standards, and is easy to maintain.
  • Database management and design.
  • Maintain product documentation to reflect enhancements and other software changes.
  • Knowledge of Integration and exchange protocols (ex. XML, Soap\REST, Json etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of application security is essential (preferred experience with PCI DSS compliant systems)

Basically, all ends of being a Developer – the front, the back and whatever other side you need to get the job done.

Desirable (though non-essential) Skills

Ideally our perfect employee would have experience working in the Leisure software development industry but as this is very niche it is not essential.

Coupled with the Essential Skills above the successful candidate will have experience with PDO, AngularJS, CSS3, SVN (tortoise), SOAP (WSDL)/REST, Bootstrap and JQuery.  Experience with hardware interfacing (Printers/Smart Card Readers) would be an advantage

Having experience of Delphi WebServices, iOS and Android development; API integration and Payment Services would be the icing on the cake!

You will also be willing to…..

  • Take over legacy code, some of which hasn’t changed for 5+ years and other code which has constantly evolved.
  • Roll up your sleeves and take on the challenge of learning what over a million lines of code over many websites do (There will be assistance on hand from the developer who put it all together, of course) .

Personal Profile

You should have…

  • Good communications skills in English – both written and verbal.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills
  • Full Drivers Licence

Be the sort of person who….

  • Actually enjoys coding and gets a buzz from it.
  • Gets excited about starting a new project and seeing it through to fruition.
  • Is positive, has a CAN-DO attitude who will find a workable solution to any problem and does not give up at the first hurdle.
  • Isn’t scared to work on their own initiative

New Scuba Messaging System

By | Software Updates | No Comments

Leisure Centre Software from Delta Computer Services

Scuba Leisure Management Software Messaging Update

We’ve been busy here at Delta adding new functionality and tweaks to our Scuba Leisure Management Software.

A lot of our customers in sports centres, health clubs and gyms post messages to members that appear when they swipe in. These messages can be used to offer a potential membership upgrade based on usage patterns, warn someone that their DD hasn’t been paid or pass on simple messages. The old single ‘memo’ page has gone and has been replaced by a full Outlook style messaging system that allow you to send multiple notes, add expiry dates to messages, archive old ones and store / analyse message history.

Any existing memos memo’s will be converted automatically after you receive the free update and when Scuba restarts

Scuba – Leisure Management System – New Contracts System

After a long development plan; which is still on-going, the new Contracts system is being rolled out to our users. The intention is to install this into specific customer sites so that it can be given a full user test by different customers who manage their resources in various fashions.

We have listened and taken on board many of your requests to make the system more robust, quicker to book and to improve the reports and hopefully you will see this when you get this upgrade.

As part of this upgrade we will conduct Free Site Visits and give you in-depth training with you and your team to ensure you get the most out of the system.

Scuba – Leisure Management Software – Mobile Stellar

The latest version of Stellar is complete and will provide your customers with an adaptive Booking interface from their mobile device/tablet.

This has already been issued to the first two customers, free of charge, as an update to the existing module and is going down very well.

All existing users will get this in due course as the systems are updated and we hope this will increase self-service and relieve pressure at the POS.

Scope v2.0

While we are on the subject of being mobile, we have just started work on V2.00 of Scope. This will enhance the User checks already built into the routine as well as add the functionality to allow your staff to manage casual class registers on the move.
