Small steps to better health!

By News

A recent in-depth study has shown that making small improvements to our sleep, diet and exercise habits can provide remarkable benefits for our hearts.

The research discovered that making small, simple changes to these three lifestyle factors can provide a ten percent reduction in major cardiovascular events, including heart attacks and strokes.

Make 3 small changes to your daily routine:

*sleep for an additional 11 minutes each night
*undertake an additional 4.5 minutes of physical activity every day
*eat an additional 1/4 cup of vegetables daily
to gain a 10% reduction in major cardiovascular events.

The findings are extremely positive as people often find it far easier and more sustainable to make several minor changes to their daily routine, rather than a huge change to one single behaviour.

“Eleven more minutes of sleep, a few minutes of movement, an extra portion of vegetables. These sound trivial, but repeated daily, they can shift the trajectory of someone’s health. Small changes are not insignificant. Small changes stick.”

The research team behind the study plan to build on the current findings and develop digital tools to support people in making positive lifestyle changes and establishing healthy habits.

This is the first analysis programme to fully assess the impact of sleep, exercise and diet combined.
