SQL Server 2008

By Uncategorized

You may already be aware that SQL Server 2008 currently used to host Scuba/CentreStage databases will no longer be supported by Microsoft after 09/07/2019. Please see https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/sql-server/sql-server-2008 for more information.

Delta will, for a period of time, continue to provide support for its applications utilising SQL Server 2008 however we recommend migrating to a current version for improved security and performance.

Server migrations sit outside of the usual services provided by Delta and as such are usually carried out by your own IT support. Delta can conduct server migrations however this is a chargeable service with quotes available upon request.

As a brief overview, you may wish to review the following considerations and suggested actions with your IT support and management team in order to make an informed decision as to how you wish to proceed:

  • Audit current configuration:
    o Operating Systems (OS)
    o Shares/permissions
    o Database access – SQL/Windows authentication group
  • Consider Scuba services (where applicable):
    o Closedown service
    o Import to Scuba5
    o InterCentreLinkService
    o ScubaExtDataSyncService
Services can be located in windows\system32 or Syswow64 depending on the server OS
  • Consider web services (where applicable):
o ScubaConnect.php within the WSDL folder holds the connection details
o ScubaRemoteWebCamera routines for terminal server installation
  • Consider Sentinel:
o Fixed IP settings for door controllers and PC(s) running Sentinel. Windows Firewall needs port 9100 opened

Suggested action plan:
1. Make a copy of the Live database (and potentially central folders) on the new server
2. Configure your existing Scuba clients with an additional ‘location’ connecting to the new database / folders (remembering to change the location name!)
3. Test and then set the clients back to the Live system
4. On the day of migration, reconfigure all clients to the new location
5. Back up the live database and then take off line
6. Restore the database on the new server (Central Folders may need to be moved again if they have changed in the interim period)
7. Allow end users access to the system
8. Remove old locations from client machines

To summarise, there are two options available:

  • Continue with SQL Server 2008 (not recommended)
  • Migrate to a current version (recommended)

New Scuba Messaging System

By Software Updates

Leisure Centre Software from Delta Computer Services

Scuba Leisure Management Software Messaging Update

We’ve been busy here at Delta adding new functionality and tweaks to our Scuba Leisure Management Software.

A lot of our customers in sports centres, health clubs and gyms post messages to members that appear when they swipe in. These messages can be used to offer a potential membership upgrade based on usage patterns, warn someone that their DD hasn’t been paid or pass on simple messages. The old single ‘memo’ page has gone and has been replaced by a full Outlook style messaging system that allow you to send multiple notes, add expiry dates to messages, archive old ones and store / analyse message history.

Any existing memos memo’s will be converted automatically after you receive the free update and when Scuba restarts

New Contracts

By News, Software Updates

Scuba – Leisure Management System – New Contracts System

After a long development plan; which is still on-going, the new Contracts system is being rolled out to our users. The intention is to install this into specific customer sites so that it can be given a full user test by different customers who manage their resources in various fashions.

We have listened and taken on board many of your requests to make the system more robust, quicker to book and to improve the reports and hopefully you will see this when you get this upgrade.

As part of this upgrade we will conduct Free Site Visits and give you in-depth training with you and your team to ensure you get the most out of the system.

Mobile Bookings on your smartphone/tablet

Scuba – Leisure Management Software – Mobile Stellar

The latest version of Stellar is complete and will provide your customers with an adaptive Booking interface from their mobile device/tablet.

This has already been issued to the first two customers, free of charge, as an update to the existing module and is going down very well.

All existing users will get this in due course as the systems are updated and we hope this will increase self-service and relieve pressure at the POS.

Scope v2.0

While we are on the subject of being mobile, we have just started work on V2.00 of Scope. This will enhance the User checks already built into the routine as well as add the functionality to allow your staff to manage casual class registers on the move.
