Delta welcomes Richard Aldridge – our new Customer Support Engineer

By News

At the beginning of October we were extremely happy to welcome Richard Aldrige into the Delta fold as a new Customer Support Engineer.

As a key part of our fundamental Customer Support department Richard will be liaising with and supporting Delta customers in their general working day use of our software and operating systems.

Richard’s role also involves working alongside Delta’s QA Testers and Development Team that ensure every web and app browser that we produce functions correctly before being presented to our customer base.

Our testing programme is currently focused on ensuring that Delta’s software continues to be modular so that it adapts to every user’s needs. Our main service: Scuba (Sports Centre Utilisation Booking and Analysis) Leisure Management System Software, is still the beating heart within our system, and we are working on new iterations of Stellar2 and Stellar3 to provide customers with even greater efficiency in the workplace.

Richard was previously employed at Freedom Leisure in Worcester where he was considered by fellow employees to be the inhouse go-to technical person. As Freedom is a service user of Delta software he gained invaluable knowledge of our products whilst working at two of their sports & leisure centres in the city.

Aside from his technical abilities, Richard is a creative soul and in his spare time uses 3D printing to create replicas of iconic symbols from films including the Green Power Ranger dagger, and the Facehugger from the movie Aliens. His love of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series recently inspired him to write and publish a book, a satirical novel set in a dystopian world; and for additional fun he DJ’s at birthdays and weddings under the name Rich T Bizkit!

Delta customers can contact our Customer Support Department between 08.00 – 17.00 from Monday to Friday.

UK Government Initiative Brings Good News for Leisure Centres

By News

As part of an inspiring initiative intended to both encourage people back to the workplace, and improve community healthcare, GPs will now be able to refer individuals to a local sports centre or gym, as a priority action, to help aid their recovery.

The strategy is based on the GP referral schemes that were first implemented in the 1990s as a response to concerns about the general public health. During this time the Chief Medical Officer made recommendations to the UK’s health practitioners regarding the benefits of physical exercise in combating illness and chronic diseases. The ideology was adopted by many primary care trusts that provided patients with access to structured exercise programmes via referrals and encouragement from their doctor.

Delta Computer Services was proud to be involved in this groundbreaking project as the supplier of the Scuba Leisure Management Software (LMS) that supported GP surgeries in their work in this area.

The 2025 adaptation of the initiative has moved the issue one step further forward by now ensuring GPs can prioritise physical exercise as a treatment, a move that will be beneficial in tackling the nation’s sick note issue.

Statistics show that there are currently 2.8 million people not working in the UK due to poor health, and a more intelligent ‘back to work’ programme is now essential. The Health Secretary, Wes Streeting, recently explained “this pilot marks the end of a broken system that’s been failing patients and holding back our economy for far too long. Right now, we’re issuing 11 million fit notes a year, with 93 per cent simply dismissing people as ‘not fit for work’ — that’s not healthcare, that’s a bureaucratic dead end”.

Under the new pilot programme GPs will be allocated finances to employ dedicated teams that will help people find a job or return to work. In addition to referrals to health and leisure centres, patients will also be able to receive advice on debt management and career counselling.

The pilot scheme, to be trialled in fifteen locations across the country, will see the establishment of community health centres staffed with teams that will include nurses, doctors, social care workers, pharmacists, health visitors, palliative care staff and paramedics.

“We’re changing this conversation” said Streeting, “instead of GPs spending precious time rubber-stamping people out of the workforce, we’re supporting providers to bring in specialists — occupational therapists, work coaches, social prescribers — who can actually help people navigate back into employment while managing their health conditions.”

Scuba National Conference Wednesday 22nd May 2024

By News

The last few years have been eventful and so much has changed about the way we all work. We all appear to be busier and spend more time watching people on Teams than we do catching up on Netflix.

Pre-lockdown, we held periodic gatherings in the form of a National Conference, as an alternative to individual visits, and we plan to do this again in 2024 in order to offer an alternative forum where we can catch up, and you can meet staff from other sites and enjoy some networking away from the day-to-day.

The location is The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Manchester on Wednesday 22nd May.

The Crowne Plaza is walking distance from Manchester Airport, which has hubs for both the rail and bus network. It also has ample parking for those that wish to drive.

The general format will be start 09:30, finish by 16:00 latest so you can miss the traffic. Lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the day. The content will be a mix of showing you ongoing developments, going through some aspects of the system that (we know) customers find tricky, group chats to share / gather information for future versions and optional break-out sessions if you want to chat about individual items.

The Team from Delta will be staying the night before and this is a good option for those of you who travel any distance or for those who will fly in from the smaller airports.

Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis, so please let us know as soon as possible if you would like to attend. We need a firm commitment to make this successful and look forward to hearing from you. If you have any questions, please contact conference@deltacomputerservices.co.uk.
